Stop listening to people who are saying that the new LinkedIn algorithm is making their content and profile views go down.
It’s NOT true.
It’s not LinkedIn, it’s the poor quality of their content.
My content engagement isn’t going down at all.
In fact in recent weeks I’ve had some record breaking engagement and by engagement I mean organic, (and not pod-related), comments, as that’s the only measure of success for me.
Many people think that LinkedIn is complicated and time consuming and unfortunately to do it well they are right.
But there’s various things that you can do and not do to revamp your LinkedIn marketing, here’s six quick ways.

6 Ways To Revamp Your LinkedIn Content Marketing
1. Do NOT use hashtags
LinkedIn got rid of hashtags a couple of years ago so it amuses me no end when I still see people adding them into content as they make absolutely NO difference to how many views your content will get.
You may have noticed that the “follow #name” is no longer available on LinkedIn and hasn’t been for many years.
This is because people started spamming hashtags by including lots of completely irrelevant hashtags in their content in order to try and game the algorithm to show their content which had nothing to do with the hashtags to people.
Well LinkedIn solved that problem by no longer allowing this to happen.
It makes ZERO difference if you use any hashtags in your content.
Do you see me using any hashtags? No.
I haven’t used any for years and yet my content is doing amazingly well and has always done so since I stopped using them.
None of our clients use them either and they are also having record engagement.
Instead of hashtags, LinkedIn uses AI to read your content and show it to people who have shown interest in similar topics locally, because your content always gets shown to your locality first.
This is why I do so many Singapore stories because LinkedIn shows my content to people in Singapore first then, and only then, if it gets comments does it get shown to the people’s connections who commented.
Of course if you also comment on all my content, LinkedIn will keep showing you my content even outside of Singapore until you don’t and then you won’t see it again until someone in your network comments on it.
2. Do NOT use video
It’s a myth that video is the key to your content marketing success on LinkedIn.
It’s not, so stop using them.
Even LinkedIn now admits this.
You may have noticed that those annoying short videos on the app have now disappeared.
This is because the data said that no one viewed them and those that did only did so for a few seconds and then left without engaging, no comments, no likes.
So yes your video may get thousands of views of 3 seconds but that’s the epitome of a meaningless vanity metric!
I have also tested this as have my clients and I can see the data for myself.
I get more views, likes and most importantly comments on my local/personal stories that have ONE photo/image and a link to the local story (never use the link as your main image as otherwise you end up with a thumbnail not a full photo, separate out the two).
Videos don’t work.
3. Post PERSONAL and LOCAL content.
Post YOUR opinion on something personal or something local either with a photo of you (not AI generated) or a relevant local picture that’s related to the local story (again not AI generated).
Yes this takes time but it’s worth doing.
My worst performing posts are the ones where I talk about my business.
This post will not do as well as a non-LinkedIn marketing advice posts for example but I like to share how you can do this better and also remind people that I don’t just comment on local Singaporean topics I actually do have a LinkedIn Marketing business that I have to feed with clients too!
4. Make your global story relevant to your local audience to go viral
If you do wish to do a non-local story to your area, make it about your locality by comparing the story to your local area.
So for example if I write a story about a business happening in X country I compare it to Singapore and make it a Singapore story even if the story is actually about another country.
It works.
Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, anything about Musk or something going viral like the couple having an affair at the Coldplay concert will of course go viral but 9/10 it has to be a local story to engage people locally first then go beyond that.
5. Add your post(s) to your Featured section EVERYDAY
Once you have created your post and put it out on LinkedIn you should then add it to your Featured Section to boost it further.
Not only do you highlight your content visually but LinkedIn then helps promote it to your audience and beyond through it too.
Your Featured Section is Your Daily online newspaper and you are the editor of it.
So add content, manipulate the order of your content and monitor how well a story is doing just like being an editor of a real online newspaper.
6. Use LinkedIn Newsletters (like this one) to distribute your content to people who are not even on LinkedIn, as 84% are not every day.
You can always use the content and post it as a LinkedIn only post later but use the newsletter to distribute it first and you will get even more engagement plus target a different audience.
I can guarantee that if your LinkedIn profile is complete (most of you have an incomplete LinkedIn profile, if you wish to see a complete profile view mine and then compare it with yours and you will see all the parts missing or not being used properly on yours) and follow my tips above then your content marketing strategy will dramatically improve.
